Job Accountant in Ottawa

Scope:

Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC) is presently seeking an experienced Financial Systems Analyst to join our Finance Team. The ideal candidate for this position will have 4+ years’ of progressive experience in financial analysis and/or accounting. The Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Systems Analyst’s primary responsibilities include analyzing and supporting EFC’s current financial systems, including MS Dynamics Great Plains and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), creating new business processes and solutions to maintain and improve existing financial systems and well as implementing financial system changes.


Duties and responsibilities:


Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial data and reports
  • Develop financial forecasts (i.e. preparation of period-end financial reports, annual budgets, quarterly variance analysis reports)
  • Assist with creating annual budgets and quarterly variance analysis reports
  • Assist the Finance Unit with determining costs incurred for each period; liaise with EFC managers to ensure costs are properly recorded
  • Perform statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported in the financial systems

Financial Systems Management:

  • Develop business intelligence solutions with database management and report writing tools
  • Develop and test new or modified report formats, or customized programs to manipulate data
  • Create and update functional specifications for new or modified reports and applications
  • Coordinate installation of financial system upgrades, program fixes, and customization files
  • Troubleshoot financial system applications
  • Develop and maintain business and/or technical explanatory documentation or manuals for the use of financial systems and related applications
  • Provide training on the use of financial systems and act as a liaison to the Information Management Unit
  • Apply knowledge of general accounting and auditing principles and/or business processes to ensure that data integrity, internal controls, and audit trails are maintained throughout all applications

Qualifications and skills:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting
  • 4 – 5 years in accounting and/or finance, with at least two in financial management systems applications and report development
  • Advanced or final stage completion of a professional accounting designation is considered an asset

General Knowledge

  • Knowledge of database management and report writing tools such as SQL Server and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles and common accounting terminology
  • Knowledge of MS Dynamics Great Plains applications (i.e. Management Reporter) and its modules (Purchasing, Sales, Inventory, Financial)

Abilities

  • Ability to apply logical, evaluative and analytical thinking to identify problems and determine optimal course of action to pursue
  • Ability to define logic for individual programs and program systems
  • Ability to define input/output file specifications including file organization
  • Ability to understand database structure, develop and build reports based on users requirements
  • Ability to write basic financial reports and briefings for senior management
