Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, International Admissions & Enrolment Services, the International Admissions Officer (IAO) supports the achievement of College enrolment goals by assessing, evaluating, and processing international student applications (Post-Secondary and ESL) for a particular admissions portfolio by determining applicant eligibility for admission to programs and issuing appropriate admissions documents for three separate intakes per academic cycle.


Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for evaluating and processing all international, full-time program applications (including advanced standing) for an assigned portfolio.
  • Monitors daily/weekly application volume to ensure backlogs are addressed and established deadlines are met, coordinating within the portfolio teams; escalates significant backlog issues to International Admissions Coordinator/Manager as appropriate.
  • Uses the Student Information System (SIS- Banner) and OAS to move applicants through the various stages of the application process. This includes running processes, inputting data, moving applicants to various queues (offer, refusal, etc.), generating offers, refusal notifications, interpreting test results, and ensuring the system, website and program rules reflect the stated requirements.
  • Contributes to maximizing and achieving international student enrolment by accurately and efficiently assessing and processing international student applications (Post-Secondary and ESL) by determining applicant eligibility for admission to College programs and issuing acceptance, test, reject letters and international statement of estimated fees.
  • Researches international education systems and analyzes international credentials to determine their equivalency to Canadian education standards.
  • Collaborates with International Admissions team members to prioritize processing and distribution of work to ensure applicant service levels are optimal.
  • Provides admissions advising and guidance to multiple prospects, applicants, students, agents, partners, and internal stakeholders (academic and corporate), including suggesting alternative program offerings depending on the individual applicant’s previous educational background.
  • Provides support and guidance to the applicant/agent from the point of pre-application to registration and at times, beyond. This may include information, such as application status, admission requirements and prerequisites, deadlines, application process, or admissions assessment.
  • Responds in a timely manner to all admissions-specific inquiries received by email, phone, or in-person to ensure courteous and accurate information/direction is provided on a variety of issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Three-year diploma or degree in Business/Office Administration or equivalent.
  • Minimum three-year (3) recent experience providing high level, empathetic customer service to a diverse clientele in an office, service, or educational setting.
  • Experience in processing high-volume, complex, and specialized information and providing guidance is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of international secondary school equivalencies, College and/or University transcripts credits, transcripts and their equivalencies is required.
  • Experience with a Student Information System, such as Banner and an admissions application system such as OAS.
  • Advanced level experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications; experience in word processing, working with relational databases and spreadsheets.
  • In-depth knowledge of international secondary school equivalencies, College and/ or University transcripts/ credits, transcripts and their equivalencies, and George Brown assessment centre test results, are required to properly advise applicants.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Written and spoken proficiency/fluency in one of the College’s primary source country languages is a significant asset.
  • Experience in problem-solving complex situations, troubleshooting and resolving conflict, exercising tact, discretion and sound judgment.
  • Experience in providing excellent customer service/support; well-developed interpersonal skills, including cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience in prioritizing and managing pressure associated with the management of numerous high-volume tasks in a busy service environment; high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience working independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to work in an environment where a diversity of people and situations are encountered.
  • Ability to travel to different campuses and travel abroad, as required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.


Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
