The Ombudsman, an Independent Officer of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan acting under the authority of The Ombudsman Act, 2012, receives complaints from citizens about provincial and municipal government services, and helps ensure the government is accountable and fair when it provides services to the public. The Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner acting under the authority of The Public Interest Disclosure Act investigates disclosures of wrongdoings and complaints of reprisal from provincial public servants, and helps to ensure the provincial government provides a workplace where wrongdoings can be safely raised and appropriately addressed.

We are seeking a Complaints Analyst to support the delivery of the broad mandate and work of the Office of the Ombudsman and the Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner. Complaints Analysts typically respond to a large number of complaints, providing initial assessment and a range of services from coaching and advice to early resolution, assessment and recommendation for further review. The successful candidate will be a decisive, discrete, highly motivated individual with extensive experience in interviewing clients from diverse backgrounds, gathering information, providing succinct and clear summaries. The successful candidate will use collaborative problem-solving techniques, to respond to calls from the public and will have exceptional evaluation and research skills.

You will be able to work independently and within a team handling competing deadlines and multiple priorities while managing complaints related to administrative decisions of government officials. A Complaints Analyst requires familiarity with the principles of administrative fairness and will analyze and assess legislation, regulations, and policies when dealing with a wide variety of provincial and municipal government complaints. The candidate of choice will have a demonstrated ability to use a trauma-informed approach to communicate with individuals who may be distressed. They will bring experience in balancing the need to resolve issues quickly with effective and thorough analysis of confidential and sensitive material. This position also requires delivery of educational workshops and presentations to the public and government officials.

All these same skills and experience will also be required of the successful candidate in order to review and assess disclosures of wrongdoing and complaints of reprisal.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be acquired through graduate or undergraduate degrees in social or health sciences, public administration and/or related training and experience. Knowledge of government programs and services is an asset.
