Job Assistant Chef in Cambridge Bay

Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.

Please note: These positions are reserved for Inuit candidates.

Work is carried out in a remote Arctic location with exposure to severe outdoor winter weather conditions.

This position is a full time, Unionized role. We are offering community-based employment, at 40 hours/per week, 5 days a week.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in basic food preparation
• Clean kitchen equipment/surroundings
• Clean food preparation and storage areas
• Maintain a tidy workspace, and ensure area is cleaned after tasks
• Communicate positively and effectively with all colleagues
• Sort, stack dishes, load/unload dishwasher, & maintain organization.
• Will assist the Chef in meal setup, breakdown, and clean up.
• Execute preparation of daily food;
• Set up and take down of fruit and salad buffet;
• Collects and washes dishes as needed
• Cleans up trash and kitchen garbage
• Cleans floors, mops and sweeps as required
• Delivers and picks up trays
• Adheres to food handling methods according to established standards of sanitation
• May need to lift and carry heavy objects, and to withstand long periods of walking, standing

Qualifications:

• Safe food handling training, or willing to obtain
• Some cook training is considered an asset

Experience:

• Previous experience in food preparation services, catering or related experience is considered an Asset
• Must be eligible for ENHANCED RELIABILITY security clearance, and must pass a company pre-employment medical
• Ability to work cross-culturally and a strong team player is a must; will need to roll up sleeves and pitch in as and when required
