Position Overview

The Planning and Development Department is looking for a temporary full-time Clerk – Permits to join their team until approximately December 31, 2023.

Responsibilities
In this position you will provide administrative and front counter support in the Building Division and for the City. You will be responsible for typing correspondence and materials; counter, email and telephone enquiries, providing information to the public and staff relating to applications, bylaws, procedures and rules, regulations and policies, processing applications and, as appropriate, issuing same; calculating fees; scheduling requests for inspections; entering and retrieving data from the automated permit information/processing system.

Requirements
You will have considerable knowledge of, and the ability to make decisions on, applicable practices, procedures, rules and regulations relative to City processes; a sound knowledge of the automated permit and license information system as related to the work; an ability to generate statistical spreadsheet reports related to the work; an ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public, officials and staff in supplying information and keyboarding skills at a minimum net speed of 40 wpm. In addition you will also be proficient in MS Office. The ability to read blueprints and knowledge of the BC Building Code would be an asset.

Compensation
$26.34 to $30.94 per hour
(Pay Grade 15, January 2021 rates)

Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.
