Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. During this program, you will gain experience at a world class organization by joining our Biologics Discovery Group. Our team is looking for a talented student with skills in immunology, molecular biology, bioinformatics and/or computer science. You will be tasked with both wet lab bioassays and dry lab in silico analyses to visualize antibody repertoires generated. You will partner closely with a supervisor and contribute to projects that could potentially have a direct impact on human health.

You will:

  • Use of laboratory techniques such as: cell culture and transfection, flow cytometry
  • Perform experimental design, execution, and data analysis
  • Assist in the development of tools for the visualization and manipulation of antibody sequence data
  • Design and test algorithms and programs for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis
  • Debug and improve existing algorithms and programs
  • Critically evaluate, communicate, and document your work

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Immunology/Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences or related discipline

Able to work for two consecutive four month terms with continued employment for the second term dependent on a positive performance review at the end of the first term

  • General knowledge of immunology, bioinformatics, and/or computer science.
  • General knowledge of molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
  • Previous lab experience.
  • Experience working within Linux systems and/or using Python.
  • Completion of previous co-op term(s).
  • High attention to detail and able to follow written procedures.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Function effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
