Overview:
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in the fast-evolving field of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) within the financial sector? The EDC ESG team is recruiting a new Climate Data Analyst to join its growing team. This individual will be a key contributor to implementing EDC’s commitments in EDC’s Climate Change Policy, as well as multiple other initiatives related to climate change.



The Climate Data Analyst will also play a pivotal role in supporting the execution of EDC’s corporate strategy, and the implementation of its environmental policies, programs, and initiatives, in collaboration with other teams. They will have a high level of exposure across EDC’s lines of business and other risk functions. This role requires technical expertise in various domains, exceptional analytical skills and comfort with complex datasets, the ability to engage and consult with technical and business teams across EDC and with external stakeholders.
Located in the ESG Group, the Analyst will support the development and implementation of climate related policies, programs, procedures and initiatives, including those related to EDC’s net-zero commitment, via the management and application of related data.
This will include supporting the data and associated reporting infrastructure, representing ESG as a data steward to ensure compliance with EDC data governance and quality requirements, coordinating the procurement and management of climate-related data, and conducting ongoing analytics related to climate data.



This is an opportunity for a collaborative and detail-oriented individual to work directly in the area of climate change in the financial services sector.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads development and maintenance of climate data and reporting infrastructure including the collection of business requirements for external climate data products and tools, specification of product parameters, and planning for the construction or improvement of climate data and reporting systems;
  • Serves as the primary point of contact amongst various internal stakeholder on cross-cutting climate data initiatives, including the implementation of the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF)
  • Responsible for managing the measurement and tracking the progress against existing and future financed emissions science-based targets to reach net zero by 2050;
  • Ensures the integrity of the data by serving as the climate data steward for all data related to PCAF and science-based targets
  • Liaises with internal data engineering teams and external consultants to ensure alignment with EDC’s business requirements on climate data;
  • Contributes to external reporting and transparency efforts, including providing input and support for EDC’s Integrated Annual Report and the TCFD report;
  • Supports data governance and data quality activities including compliance with EDC data governance policies and procedures, continuous data management on behalf of the ESG Data Owner and identification of measures to enhance EDC’s climate data infrastructure and integrity;
  • Participates in PCAF working groups, and represents EDC in relevant international working groups and fora related to climate data management and/or analysis;
  • Coordinates procurement of climate data solutions, as required; and
  • Drafts communication materials and presentations for diverse stakeholder groups, including senior management, on EDC’s climate data initiatives.

Screening Criteria:

  • Undergraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, climate science, engineering or related field, ideally with a focus on environmental issues;
  • Minimum 4-5 years of direct experience in data management, including building, and analysis of complex climate data, preferably in the context of a financial institution;
  • Experience with data and reporting infrastructure and integrity needs, including data governance standards, stewardship training on responsibilities and quality assurance processes, ensuring quality data as required to mitigate data risk and automate existing dashboards;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical and data challenges to non-expert audiences; and
  • Ability to operate with a suite of data processing languages, data visualization software, and data integration platforms such as Excel VBA, R, Python, Power BI and/or Databricks, Synapse is preferred but not mandatory

Assets:

  • Graduate degree in a related field;
  • Experience with the measurement of financed emissions aligned with PCAF and tracking progress against science-based targets (i.e. SBTI or PACTA);
  • Experience of TCFD and relevant climate change reporting frameworks;
  • Experience with Data Management standards relevant to ensuring data integrity;
  • Experience with international organizations such as the IFC, WB, OECD and/or the UN;
  • Bilingual in both official languages (French & English).

Salary Range:

  • $78,000 - $117,000 + performance-based incentive
