Job Data Engineer in Toronto

As a member of the Enterprise Data Platform team, reporting to the EDP AI/ML Senior Manager, the Cloud Data Engineer and Analytics DevOps will play a leading role in the development of new products, capabilities, and standardized practices using Cloud and Data technologies. Working closely with our business partners, this person will be part of a team that advocates the use of advanced Data technologies to solve business problems, and be a thought-partner in Data space.

Your future duties and responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of Data solution delivery life cycle utilizing both on-prem data technologies and public cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Build, own and manage data engineering pipelines, workflows and standardized practices for delivering new products and capabilities using Data and Cloud technologies, including data acquisition, transformation, processing and analysis
  • Ensure Big Data practices integrate into overall data architectures and data management principles (e.g. data governance, data security, metadata, data quality)
  • Execute end to end CI/CD data engineering steps including code build/test/merge and provide feedback to developers
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive and strategic business cases used at management and executive levels for funding and scoping decisions on Big Data solutions
  • Troubleshoot production issues within the Hadoop environment and Cloud
  • Perform optimization and tuning of data workflow processes and applications
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
  • Bachelor in Computer Science, Engineering Management Information Systems, or Computer Information Systems is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in developing data pipelines and workflows in GCP data platforms, services and applications (Pub/Sub, Storage, Dataflow, Dataproc BQ, Airflow, Composer)
  • Minimum 5 years of CI/CD deployment, code management platform GitHub, building and coding applications using Hadoop components - HDFS, Hive, Impala, Sqoop, Flume, Kafka, StreamSets, HBase, etc.
  • Minimum of 5 years of coding Scala / Spark, Spark Streaming, Java, Python, HiveQL
  • Minimum 5 years of understanding of traditional ETL tools & Data Warehousing architecture.
  • Strong personal leadership and collaborative skills, combined with comprehensive, practical experience and knowledge in end-to-end delivery of Big Data solutions.
  • Must be proficient in SQL/HiveQL and programming language (Java/Python)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep understanding of techniques used in creating and serving schemas at the time of data consumption
  • Advanced Cloud data technologies in ML space (Vertex AI, BQ-ML etc)
  • Experience in AWS/Azure data platforms
  • Experience in data visualization tools such as Google Looker, Microstrategy
  • Past experience using Maven, Git, Jenkins, Se, Ansible or other CI tools is a plus
  • Experience in Exadata and other RDBMS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of predictive analytics techniques (e.g. predictive modeling, statistical programming, machine learning, data mining, data visualization).
  • Familiarity with different development methodologies (e.g. waterfall, agile, XP, scrum)
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills including written, verbal, and technology illustrations.
  • Experience working with multiple clients and projects at a time.
