The Opportunity:

  • In this role, we need someone to help develop our next-generation data platform, creating reliable and easily accessible data to serve the varying needs of our business. You will work within the Data Engineering function while partnering and working in alignment with a broader Data and Analytics department. The Data Engineering function is responsible for making data available at the right time and place, harmonizing data across disparate sources to create a single source of truth. Your team will own the end-to-end data management lifecycle, and routinely maintain the flow of data from our platform to our analytics warehouse and other systems. Data is a precious asset to our organization and we want you to treat it as such, designing elegant solutions to manage the creation, collection, storage, integration, and curation of our data. This is a high-visibility role where you will collaborate with Data Analysts, Software Engineers, and an external Data Management consultancy. Having strong business acumen will help you navigate the organization and become a trusted partner.

Your typical day at HomeStars:

  • Build data structures to enable internal users to self-serve through writing basic queries or connecting dashboards for a drag-and-drop experience, this includes ad-hoc data requests.
  • Maintain a portfolio of data structures, data models, and data pipelines to ensure that our data platform supplies accurate and reliable data to business users and systems.
  • Partner with members of the data and analytics team to build an understanding of our business and in return, create proposals on data models that can better serve our needs.
  • Optimize the analytics warehouse by routinely evaluating the design, adoption, usage, relevance, performance, and costs.
  • Explore our platform, architecture, and design patterns in order to learn more about the origin and lineage of our data such that proposals can be made on how to upgrade/utilize

Must-have qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in building components of a data platform and designing complex data models, deep specialization in working with Python, SQL, and ETL/ELT technologies.
  • Ability to intake requirements from a variety of stakeholders and quickly produce the appropriate data structures or queries to support their.
  • Capable of creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation to help describe our data platform to technical and non-technical users, such as dictionaries and diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of data management concepts with the ability to translate business and analytics requirements into credible data requirements to support.
  • Hands-on skills with code (Python, R, etc...), databases (Snowflake, MySQL, Postgres, etc...), and data integration technologies (Informatica, Alteryx, KNIME, Talend, etc…)

Nice-to-have qualifications:

  • Experience in using data integration software to connect with Salesforce, building a two-way data flow that pushes from a database and pulls from Salesforce’s API.
  • Experience in building data pipelines in Informatica.
