Reporting to the Vice-President, Business Architecture and Data Strategy, Individual Insurance, Savings and Retirement, the Director, Data Strategy, Governance and Analytics is responsible for developing strategic data practices and capabilities to support the Individual line in achieving its business ambitions.

We are committed to putting data at the core of our business strategies, making the cross-functional Data Strategy and Governance team the catalyst for our data ambitions and propelling us from strategy to reality!

Working closely with the entire business line and the IT sector, the director will build business-wide data foundations with the mission of refining our data strategy to bring data governance to life and support all business line teams, from identifying data opportunities to delivering value through data.

This role creates tangible value and supports the delivery of a signature client, advisor and employee experience, while sustaining the Individual business line’s growth and operational efficiency goals.

Your main responsibilities:

Data strategy and promotion

  • Provide strategic leadership by defining, advancing and delivering on our vision and data strategy to support our short- and long-term business objectives
  • Define and develop an integrated roadmap of all data initiatives for the business line, highlighting value as it is delivered
  • Establish key performance indicators to track the progress of the data initiatives portfolio
  • Proactively lead the prioritization of data initiatives and data leveraging opportunities, providing oversight and supporting innovation across the business line
  • Promote and support the business line in leveraging data and raising data visibility via dashboards, reports, predictive models and other data solutions for operational, informational and strategic purposes

Business-wide data solutions

  • Ensure the required foundations and capabilities are developed to boost data visibility in the sector, in line with corporate standards and guidelines
  • Build reusable business-wide solutions to support Individual's data transformation, providing leadership to the multidisciplinary team responsible for defining and delivering business data solutions (Train Data)

Data governance leadership

  • Deploy data governance and best practices, and represent Individual on corporate-level data management, analytics and governance committees and working groups
  • Work closely with teams in the Data Governance Office and Data Centre of Excellence to bring enterprise governance and best practices to life in the Individual business line
  • Provide matrix and collaborative leadership to drive unified action and reuse across the business line to accelerate value delivery
  • Support strategic projects through data deployment, aligning with data-related business needs, good governance practices and cross-functional solutions
  • Act as ambassador, raising awareness of and demystifying data-related concepts to support our data-driven transformation
  • Support implementation of robust data practices: information architecture, data architecture, data flow mapping, modeling, implementing tools such as data catalogues, setting quality standards and managing various repositories
  • Lead the development of the business line’s operational data steward network through a solid grasp of roles, activation and data governance processes
  • Actively participate in the promotion and implementation of privacy practices and ensure ongoing adherence

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, data management, computer science or related field
  • Management experience with proven cross-functional leadership skills in a team transformation environment
  • Advanced data experience and knowledge, particularly in strategic data leveraging
  • Expertise and engagement in business case preparation and presentation, and in strategic planning of corporate data objectives
  • Related insurance industry experience is an asset
  • Inspirational leadership with a strategy and results focus, and a recognized catalyst for change
  • Exceptional ability to influence projects and complex environments
  • Ability to mobilize and develop a high-performance team
  • Experience with Agile methodology (SAFe) is an asset
  • Demonstrated skill in solving problems and managing priorities
  • Excellent command of French and English (oral and written) for frequent interaction with internal French- and English-speaking colleagues and partners across Canada
