Description:

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), School of Continuing Studies (SCS) and under the general direction of the Director, Professional Faculties Human Resources or their designate, the HR Consultant for SCS, and as a part of the larger Professional Faculties HR team, the incumbent provides a wide range of HR support services to the School of Continuing Studies. Duties include handling a variety of general HR inquiries such as: recruitment, routine collective agreement interpretations, providing information on general HR policies and procedures including standard benefits and pension information. The incumbent is responsible for enrolling new SCS employees into pension and benefit plans. The incumbent handles very confidential information in an appropriate manner and refers more complex queries as appropriate. These include responding to requests or questions from Labour Relations, providing information or redirecting to other contacts as appropriate; alerting the HR Consultant and the Director of any issues that they should be aware of or that require attention; providing support to administrative recruitments; conducting research, gathering and compiling confidential information in support of special projects, grievances, the University’s bargaining strategy and recruitment activities; performing casual on-lining of staff into HRIS as required; arranging meetings; and providing general office support.


QUALIFICATIONS:

(Minimum)


Education:

University degree and courses leading to or completion of CHRP, CPA or CEBS or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience:

Minimum two (2) years of recent related experience within in a Human Resources department, preferably in a unionized environment. Experience with employee benefits/pension administration. Experience with full cycle recruitment. Strong customer service focus with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally in person, via telephone and in writing.


Skills:

Demonstrated proficiency with software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Excel, E-mail SharePoint and the Internet). Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the University Administrative Management Systems (HRIS). Experience working with an applicant tracking system. Adaptability to learn new technology.


Other:

Demonstrated initiative, tact, discretion and judgment. Ability to solve problems both independently and as part of a team. Possesses a high level of integrity and professionalism; self-motivated; dependable and outgoing in interactions with others. Ability to interpret and apply complex guidelines. Ability to manage multiple conflicting tasks concurrently, professionally, effectively and follow through on multiple work initiatives. Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality. Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
