We have an exciting role open as a Human Resources Manager in our Vancouver office. Your focus will be managing the day-to-day Human Resources (HR) operations in our Vancouver office, working with professional staff and national managers/directors to foster a collegial and collaborative culture. You will play a pivotal role liaising with national managers and directors on all staffing matters including staff retention, resource management, engagement and development.

Please note that this role offers a hybrid work arrangement. Each week will combine both working from your home office and working from the McMillan office.

What You’ll Do

In collaboration with the national HR team, you will oversee the day-to-day administration and operations of various HR functions in the Vancouver office including performance management, compensation, payroll changes, legislative compliance, resource management budgeting, and employee relations. You will support the onboarding of new team members across a broad range of positions and will assist with overseeing the delivery of various HR programs.

You will play an active role in fostering a work environment that is inclusive, collaborative and engaging as well as focus on employee engagement and motivation, professional development and employee retention. You will coach, lead, mentor and develop one direct report – Generalist, Human Resources and work closely with the Supervisor, Legal Support Services. You will deliver effective communication of all national HR policies and execute various employee programs including service recognition, wellness, office social events and local charitable activities. You will coordinate the ergonomic programs in collaboration with our Facilities team for the Vancouver office in accordance with national standards and guidelines, as well as participate on a variety of committees including Health and Safety and the United Way Committee.

As the HR Manager, you will actively participate in and oversee the onboarding and offboarding of all professional staff. As a member of the national HR team, you will champion new firm national equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. As well as support new firm initiatives, special projects and assist with roll-out and implementation.

What You Bring

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in a Human Resources Generalist role; legal or professional services environment is an asset
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or completion of a post graduate Human Resources Program
  • A CPHR designation is considered an asset
  • Previous supervisory and/or management experience is required
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, strategic leadership, coaching, facilitation, and relationship management skills
  • Proven ability to partner with a variety of stakeholders, an ability to listen and to build confidence, interacting with people at all levels of the organizational with tact, diplomacy and in a professional manner
  • Develop, coach and motivate people and foster a positive work environment
  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, planning and analytical skills; demonstrated use of sound judgment and reliable decision making
  • Ability to perform well under time constraints to meet deadlines
  • Ability to resolve problems effectively exercising creative and analytical thinking
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and enjoy working in a fast-paced, team based environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and generally able to embrace new technology/information systems.
