Job Janitor in Agassiz

POSITION SUMMARY

Working within the Early Childhood Development department the Janitor will be hardworking and detail oriented. The individual will assist with the cleaning and care of our Early Childhood Centre. The Janitor will be responsible for keeping our building clean and presentable for staff, students and families to enjoy. You will perform routine duties and minor building service tasks, including floor care, maintaining cleanliness in all school rooms and washrooms, entrances, and hallways.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • You will have a daily, weekly and monthly cleaning/maintenance schedule to follow.

Annual Duties: (Include but are not limited to)

  • Help with the set-up and take down of any annual events.
  • Steam cleaning

As Needed: (Include but are not limited to)

  • Help other staff load and unload vehicles as needed.
  • Clean the large motor room toys.
  • Sweep and mop the Large Motor Room floor (move toys and furniture to get all floor space)
  • Help take down and put-up climbing wall mats.
  • Weed gardens.
  • Help with Mill Hall, OOSC and YPP locations as needed.
  • Wash decks as needed.
  • Wash outside toys as needed.
  • Help continue to organize the upstairs storage space and when the organization is complete, help keep it tidy and maintained with daily checks
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Director, or the CAO

WHAT YOU BRING

Education

  • High school degree
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5.
  • WHIMIS
  • First Aid Level 1
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Criminal Record Check.

Experience

  • Proven working experience as a Janitor.
  • Ability to handle equipment and machinery.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Integrity and ability to work independently.
  • Handle basic maintenance, building repairs, cleaning, and other janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of principles, tools, and techniques of planning and purchasing supplies.
  • Knowledge of general principles of cleaning/sanitization
  • Ability to lift/unload food and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and as per manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedure.
  • Knowledge and respect of Stó: lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.

Reports to: ECE Director/Daycare Supervisor
