Job Janitor in Williams Lake

Every position contributes to the spiritual and social mission of The Salvation Army. Reporting directly to the Director of Community and Family Services, the Janitor will provide general cleaning duties and small maintenance repairs, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for clients and staff. The custodian maintains the cleanliness of the facility in compliance with applicable standards.

HOURS:

  • Permanent Full-Time based on 28 hours per week
  • 11 am – 430 pm Monday – Thursday; 11 am – 5 pm Friday

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be polite and courteous to all guests, donors, visitors, and staff
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the Family Services facility such as cleaning washrooms, collecting and disposing of garbage, cleaning and sanitizing after meals, washing and sanitizing handrails in high traffic areas
  • Sweeping and washing all floors and stairways
  • Checking, cleaning, moving, arranging, and dusting furniture as required
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks
  • Maintain and monthly cleaning schedule and checklist of appliances (washer/dryer, dishwashers)
  • Complete a visual inspection of the premises every shift to ensure that all aspects of the housekeeping plan have been completed
  • Checking doors and windows to ensure building security
  • Reporting safety concerns and repairing issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures)
  • Restocking washroom and order cleaning supplies
  • Spot washing accessible walls
  • Keeping janitor, storage, and laundry room clean and organized
  • Maintain a clean and safe mechanical room
  • Ensure all Health and Safety compliance
  • Perform monthly fire extinguisher and emergency lighting tests
  • Use all supplies and materials in accordance with WHMIS and perform all duties in a safe manner
  • Assist in Food Bank or Share Shelf on occasion, when accepting large food shipments or food drive donations to the Food Bank
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful candidate must have completed high school, an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable
  • WHIMIS certificate
  • First Aid & CPR Certification would be an asset
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification would be an asset

Experience:

  • Must have up to six months prior experience, including previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality with regard to guest and customer operations
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to work with little supervision but also able to accept direction when required
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
