Description:

The Robert C. Byrd Clinic, on the campus of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, is seeking a full-time Medical Receptionist for our behavioral health department to function as an integral member of the behavioral health interdisciplinary care team in providing the highest quality of care to patients.

Position Purpose:

Provide friendly and helpful customer service by serving as the first point of contact for patients. Accurately collect important patient information and serve as a helpful resource to patients.

Position Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Excellent computer skills required. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Strong communication skills required. Desire to work with the behavioral health community.

Experience:

One year of receptionist experience in a medical setting preferred. Behavioral health experience ideal.

Reports to: Director of Revenue Cycle

Supervises: Non-supervisory

Job Requirements:

  • Greet and register patients for medical appointments in a welcoming and professional manner.
  • Accurately and discreetly maintain patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating patient’s personal information (including DOB, address, and phone number).
  • Collect, scan, and enter insurance information; verify insurance information with every visit.
  • Collect patient co-pays and payments on account balances; work with the business office to collect back balances and or resolve billing issues if/when necessary.
  • Verify HIPAA privacy forms with every visit; update expired forms.
  • Schedule/reschedule patient appointments in accordance with established procedures and provider preferences.
  • Complete end of day tasks including printing the daily journal and accurately balancing it with collections and securing collections in the lock box.
  • Document failed appointments in accordance with established procedures.
  • Answer and receive transferred phone calls.
  • Process cases in Athena.
  • Process bucket tasks in Athena.
  • Distribute mail to physicians and nursing staff.
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicate with patients who may be experiencing mental health difficulties. Successfully manage patients and families in stressful or potentially crisis situations.
  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality of all medical records and all other pertinent information according to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
