Job Lead Data Engineer in Mississauga

The Position

The Digital Pathology (DP) Data Services Team within Roche provides data management, generation, and validation services to support DP science & discovery teams in their algorithm research and development. We are an incredibly motivated, smart and diverse group of unique individuals united in our mission to improve the lives of every patient afflicted with cancer.

We are seeking an excellent, experienced and highly skilled Data Engineer lead for DP Data Management with a strong technical background rooted in fundamental computer science and database management.

Given the collaborative nature of our team, we are looking for someone with a flexible and learning mindset, the ability to work in a fluid and dynamic environment, and a strong desire to pursue creative solutions to challenging problems following the highest standards in the industry.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Computer Science/Computational Science discipline with 12 years' work experience or preferred, a Master’s degree

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for digital pathology and analysis of digitized images using computational approaches

  • 5+ years’ experience architecting and developing scalable data pipelines, frameworks and platforms to power data science efforts in distributed cloud environments

  • Strong leadership in adopting AI algorithms from an engineering perspective; with knowledge of digital pathology preferred

  • Solid knowledge of HPC and AWS based data engineering and analytics solutions

  • Significant experience with storage technologies and their advantages and disadvantages (e.g. Relational Database, No-SQL Database, Object Storage)

  • Extensive experience in designing, developing and maintaining databases. Proficiency in data processing and management including the ability to query large data sets, including image sets.

  • Experience with various data integration/ETL tools, application integration, business process and data science tools (e.g. Talend, Kubeflow, Spark, Tableau, Flume, Kafka or Databricks)

  • Fluency in programming languages (SQL, Python, Go, Java) for data analysis

  • Up-to-date with technology trends and good understanding of its impact on the current technology portfolio

  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills and able to multitask

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge on image processing and computer vision

  • Strong background in statistics and hands-on experience with deep learning

  • Prior experience in digital pathology, medical imaging

  • Experience with Terraform
