About Our Opportunity at Peggy's Cove VIC


As a seasonal Maintenance Worker at the Peggy’s Cove Visitor Information Centre, you are a part of a team responsible for assisting with the seasonal maintenance of the interior and exterior of the Peggy’s Cove Visitors Information Centre building, parking lot and grounds including required daily janitorial duties.

This opportunity would be a great fit for an individual that enjoys being outside and likes working with various types of equipment.

This position reports to the Peggy’s Cove Maintenance Supervisor.

Primary Accountabilities


Daily responsibilities include:


  • Maintaining the parking lot and grounds (mowing, planting, seeding, weeding, cutting and trimming trees and bushes), minor repairs (painting, and plumbing), routine equipment and tools maintenance, janitorial (cleaning and stocking the washrooms along with cleaning the windows, floors and dusting) and maintaining cleaning supplies.
  • Assisting with site maintenance, equipment inventories, security checks, opening and closing procedures and other duties as required.
  • Working in varying weather conditions and hot/windy/wet/cold environments.
  • Providing professional customer service and relations to visitors.
  • Working safely by following the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Workplace policies all safe work practices.

Qualifications and Experience


To be a successful in this role you must have completion of Grade 10 plus two years related experience working in a maintenance environment. This includes knowledge and experience in general handyperson skills, painting, building and grounds maintenance, and general equipment maintenance as required.


This role requires an individual who has a positive attitude and ability to speak confidently and professionally when addressing visitors and staff within the facility. You work well independently and in team settings, valuing and respecting a diverse and inclusive environment.


You also have basic computer skills, including use of software packages such as Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word).


You also have:


  • Experience and strong knowledge of maintenance operations
  • Strong aptitude for safe operation of equipment, general maintenance, and repair
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and sanitation requirements
  • Certification in First Aid and WHMIS is an asset

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks

Working Conditions at the Peggy's Cove VIC


This is a labour-intensive position requiring physical strength and dexterity. At times, you are subject to various weather conditions (hot, cold, windy, rainy).

  • You must have a driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50+lbs of equipment over varying terrain

Additional Information


This a full-time permanent (35 hours a week) seasonal position based out of the Peggy’s Cove VIC. The position involves shiftwork, including weekends and holidays.


This opportunity has anticipated start in June with an end date in mid-October.


This is a seasonal employment opportunity for the period between April and October. Successful candidates must have the ability to work flexible hours including some weekends, evenings and holidays. Pay Grade: MOS 07

Salary Range: $1,589.42 - $1,629.48 Bi-Weekly
