Job Summary
NAV CANADA’ Strategic Direction requires the advancement of the Company’s safety intelligence strategy through the application of innovative data analytics to identify, understand, and mitigate Safety System vulnerabilities. The role is responsible for applying research techniques, mathematical modeling, and other optimization methods for handling structured and non-structured datasets to enable better data-driven decision making and planning. Responding to ad-hoc requests on competitive and strategic issues, the role communicates with the various business units within NAV CANADA and with peer Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs). The role is responsible for the integrity of the calculations used for measures and is considered a subject matter expert in advanced data analytics.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
  • Provides thought leadership about data analysis. Produces analytical/intelligence reports (obtained information from internal and external sources, assesses the value, and provides actionable insight).
  • Conducts sophisticated analysis drawing on a wide variety of data sources and advanced analytical methods, presented in a fashion that they can be communicated to a wide variety of audience.
  • Develops logical and physical data models including multidimensional data cubes, metadata definitions and models.
  • Develops conceptual frameworks regarding the design and management of data integration infrastructure for data sharing purposes.
  • Conceptualizes, defines, and maintains core metrics for relevant areas of the business; establish reliable reporting for monitoring these metrics, and proactively provide insights and/or solutions based on observed trends.
  • Leads analytical efforts for projects, works closely with different business units, operating with little guidance or supervision.
  • Partners with the business units to provide consultancy and translate the business needs to design and develop tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization.
  • Identifies data communication and information management issues and opportunities, analyzes problems and alternatives, and develops sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Enhances and restructures reporting structure and needs.
  • Partners with various business units to ensure data accessibility, coverage, and quality.
  • Keeps up to date with industry best practices and latest trends in data analytics and incorporates them into the methodologies at NAV CANADA. Research into analytical insight for business opportunities and performance, shows data correlation to performance, etc.
  • Raises the skill level of entire analyst team by creating exemplary deliverables and introducing better practices, processes, and tools.
  • Maintains contacts and/or attends meetings as the department subject matter expert, explains approach, theory, and rationale for data samples, analytical approach, and outcomes re sensitivity analysis.
Job Requirements
Education:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Business or Public Administration or an acceptable combination of education, experience, and training.
Experience:
  • Strong analytical thinker/mind set with proven ability to solve complex problems
  • Strong detail and deadline oriented, flexible to rapid change
  • Experience building consensus among cross-functional teams
  • Experience with operational data modeling
Knowledge:
  • Advanced knowledge working with large datasets, building tables/queries, data manipulation skills, analytics tools, etc.
  • Degree specialized in data science, economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, and a minimum of 5-8 years of experience working in a related field.
Abilities:
  • Strong ability to manipulate data, conduct rigorous analyses, and generate actionable insights with little guidance quickly and efficiently
  • Curious and meticulous, with the patience to dig into murky datasets and carefully document the work
  • Strong ability to communicate insights verbally, visually, and in writing
  • Strong ability to synthesize large amounts of data into snapshots appropriate for senior management use
  • Strong ability to understand and follow data flow processes from multiple disparate systems
  • Quality focused and team-oriented

  • Work location is Ottawa. Alternate work location may be considered under flexible work arrangements. This position has been classified as Hybrid.
