Team & Position Overview

As EDC aims to be the leader in helping all Canadian exporters go, grow, and succeed internationally, the marketing team has an ambitious agenda to deepen exporter engagement. As part of the Communications, Marketing and Corporate Strategy group (CMCS), the Marketing Strategy and Effectiveness (MSE) team is seeking a Manager, Marketing Operations to manage the Operations team and support them in delivering on several initiatives related to the efficiencies and effectiveness of the greater Marketing department. The MSE team is an emerging team, who supports the needs of our Brand, Demand Generation, Customer Experience, Customer Analytics, Martech and Web Experience teams who deliver on initiatives that support EDC’s strategy.

As part of our marketing leadership team, you will develop a high-level view of our marketing operations and procedures and implement new ways to eliminate inefficiency, simplify processes and leverage technology, improve collaboration, and support overall business objectives. This is a management position, and our ideal candidate has at least 3 years of experience in a leadership role, managing people within a marketing department, especially as related to operations and logistics.

As the Manager, Marketing Operations, you will leverage your understanding of the marketing strategy and team structure to maintain the overall prioritization, informed by the direction of the Marketing leadership team. The Manager, Marketing Operations will work with their team to identify continuous improvements at scale. The successful candidate has a strong drive for teamwork, transparency, agility, innovation, results, customer experience and willing to challenge the status quo.

Reporting to the Director, Marketing Strategy & Effectiveness, the Manager, Marketing Operations will focus on managing, developing and supporting a team responsible for the following areas.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

Martech Management - support critical business objectives and drive innovation within Marketing using technology to gain efficiencies while enabling improved customer experiences.

  • Ensure Marketing teams are enabled by technology, removing manual work and facilitating the education of the department on processes and best practices.
  • Work with the team to develop a plan to increase martech utilization.
  • Sustain a governance structure to support the diffusion of technology across the marketing function with the “product SMEs” program.
  • Reframe martech strategy from a procurement exercise to an optimization exercise leveraging insights from SMEs and industry trends to aid the continuous review of our martech roadmap.
  • Enhance our martech stack with new vendors that will provide new capabilities and upgrading existing ones using a process to bridge short-term needs while creating a platform for longer-term success as conditions change.

Workflow Optimization and Performance Management – analyze, optimize workflows to enable the Marketing teams to execute more effectively and efficiently on the strategy. Source data and highlight improvements Marketing-wide and team level, to alignment, timeliness, capacity, and progress.

  • Supports leadership team in operationalizing an integrated marketing strategy and plan, which is aligned to the corporate strategy.
  • Brings visibility to leadership on areas resources are diverted to non-performing initiatives and/or not aligned to strategy and provides recommendations on where the department should maintain investments and resourcing in innovation and high value activities.
  • Identifies gaps and challenges in operating processes and works with the team to implement solutions including governance, documentation, training, and measurement.
  • Manages Risk and Compliance, ensuring proper processes in place for marketing materials and initiatives. Ensuring the adherence to best practices for marketing privacy and supporting corporate compliance as needed to mitigate risks. (e.g., management of customer data, adhering to EDC archiving polices, maintaining business continuity plans).
  • Measures and demonstrates continuous improvements around operational efficiencies Marketing-wide, by function, initiative, and provide insights to the dept.
  • Facilitates operations review sessions with the leadership team and at scaled to ensure on-going alignment across priority projects, raising issues related to scope, prioritization and capacity issues.
  • Maintains reporting in the project management tool Azure DevOPS (ADO) to provide visibility to Marketing initiative status, with real-time insight.
  • Oversees the Marketing Operations and Martech team backlogs, ensuring the work is prioritized to meet MSE year-end objectives.

Building High Performing Team and Healthy Workplace Culture – help create an environment where marketers are engaged, happy and running sustainably. Manage ongoing education opportunities and competency development for the Marketing OPS team members and the Marketing function.

  • Helps develop a set of common competencies for all marketers, broken down into skill levels (foundational, accomplished and expert) to help team members evaluate themselves and build development plans with their leaders.
  • Support skills development to help the dept evolve the marketing practices and adopts new ways of working.
  • Has oversight of the Learning series, Marketing summits and onboarding programs.
  • Support team actions plans related to employee engagement surveys.

Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration; Marketing or related field.
  • 7 years + experience working in a Marketing organization, a digital environment, B2B marketing, Partner Marketing, Marketing communications, organizational excellence or related field.
  • Experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management
  • Experience in Marketing technology.
  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).
  • At least 3 years in a management position, leading people/teams.
  • Demonstrates ability to thrive in an agile matrix organization.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing concepts and best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of Agile principles and practices.

Asset

  • Financial sector experience.
  • Experience working in or with sales and product development departments.
  • Familiar with the exporter journey.
  • Knowledge of Azure Dev Ops. Boards.

Salary Range

  • $91,700 – 137,600, plus performance-based incentive
