The Largest Multi-Purpose Marine Terminal on the West Coast of North America. Located in the Greater Vancouver Area of Surrey, BC, DP World Fraser Surrey is the largest modern, multi-purpose marine terminal on the West Coast of North America. The Opportunity
The Manager, Operations Fraser Surrey is responsible for overseeing the management of the terminal operations to ensure the efficient allocation of labour, resources, equipment and terminal activities to achieve optimum delivery of business outcomes. This role is a key leadership position and requires someone who is keen to take the initiative and challenge of leading, motivating and developing staff at all levels to actively contribute to improving overall terminal productivity, safety and success.
In this role, you will:
- Lead by example in the delivery of safe work practices and ensure the continual identification and management of hazards to reduce accidents and injury, including incident investigation and implementing corrective actions.
- Develop and review the short, medium and long term operations plans and budget to deliver on operational commitments and customer expectations. Provide regular reports and analysis on ship, yard, and rail KPIs.
- Contribute to the planning and analysis required to execute collective bargaining negotiations and labour reviews.
- Provide leadership for operational activities including vessel, yard and rail with special focus on providing high quality service to our customers in line with company’s standards, policies and procedures.
- Resolve customer operational service delivery concerns and maintain a high standard of working relationships with the terminal stakeholders, lines, agents, shippers, consignees, port authority, customs and other concerned parties.
- Review equipment requirements against inventory to ensure operational needs are met in advance of growth, maintenance schedules are supported and the profile is economically and operationally sustainable.
- Provide leadership and create a rewarding team based culture for the team, including mentorship and development of staff.
What you bring to the role:
- A degree in business, operational management, logistics, engineering or other related field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ management experience within terminal operations or logistics business.
- Advanced knowledge of terminal safety and security procedures and protocols.
- Proven leadership capability, with the confidence to communicate with all levels of management and demonstrated success in dynamic environments.
- Experienced negotiator and a self-starter with the ability to adapt to stressful environments by using a sociable but firm approach, as well as engendering trust and integrity.
- Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to motivate, develop and encourage staff to positively contribute to business goals and objectives.
- High level analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills.
- Strong commitment to client service excellence with the ability to build solid relationships.
