Job Payroll Specialist in Edmonton
The Business Integration & Workforce Development Section of the Edmonton Transit Service Branch is currently looking for a permanent Payroll Clerk. Acting as a functional expert of the transit payroll administration, you will process payroll transactions (end-to-end) accurately and on time for more than 1,600 ETS operators.
This position requires a highly organized, analytical and self-motivated individual that performs assignments with a high degree of independence, referring only unusual matters to the Supervisor. You will be an active contributor on this team, striving to identify ways to create fresh/innovative ideas for improvements and efficiencies.

- Utilize the Edmonton Transit Dispatch System (ETDS) to process and audit transit operators’ payroll transactions daily / bi-weekly and correct errors
- Correlate payroll transactions using multiple reports and ensure the accuracy of the transactions
- Resolve discrepancies/errors in time and absence reporting
- Research, analyze, and provide solutions to address issues with payroll transactions through various mediums such as phone, e-mail, fax and web
- Manually enter timesheets in PeopleSoft for 100 employees
- Compile and evaluate information as directed by the Supervisor of Resource Management in support of Resource Management business activities
- Compile and evaluate information from various sources for special reports as assigned by the Supervisor of Resource Management
- Develop new processes to continuously improve existing processes and make recommendations to the Supervisor and other team members
- Ensure data integrity among various databases
- Completion of Grade 12 or higher, or equivalent, including subjects related to business, statistics, and information processing OR Completion of a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification or related
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in payroll and synthesizing and analyzing data
Assets:
- Knowledge of payroll practices and procedures and related collective agreements
- Experience utilizing PeopleSoft (HRIS) to process payroll/benefits/pension transactions
- Experience supporting payroll in a transit operational environment
Skills and Abilities:
- Prior payroll auditing experience auditing a large volume of transactions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the team and other stakeholders
- Ability to exercise effective conflict resolution skills
- Ability to solve problems, take initiative, and make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to continually improve processes adapt to changes and work independently through ambiguity
- Demonstrated professionalism with an ability to maintain high confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of thoroughness, accuracy, and attention to detail while managing a heavy workload, adjusting priorities, dealing with changing priorities and maintaining stable performance under pressure
- Strong analytical, decision-making, multitasking and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
- Proficient in Google Applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows applications

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $25.448 - $31.909 (Hourly); $53,135.420 - $66,625.990 (Annually)
