About Us


Role

The Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and Capital Policy Unit leads the assessment and development of policy improvements to the Film and Television Tax Credit (FTTC), and advances specific policy initiatives to support entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Alberta. The unit is also responsible for the development and presentation of models, strategies, and policies that aim to strengthen the capital investment and strong business support ecosystem in the province.

Working closely with team members, including the Managers and Directors in the branch, the Research and Policy Analyst supports projects and prepares strategic internal and external communications. The Research and Policy Analyst's technical, analytical and communication skills are essential to both the unit and the branch achieving their business plan goals in fostering solutions to address key access to capital barriers that enterprises and entrepreneurs face, and promoting economic growth in Alberta.

The Research and Policy Analyst will be required to lead and support various research projects with competing priorities. The Research and Policy Analyst is responsible for:

  • Performing jurisdictional, market, economic, and statistical research and analysis.
  • Providing strategic and policy advice related to reducing barriers for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
  • Improving retention and strengthen the business support and investment-financing ecosystem in the province.
  • Coordinating engagement with technical contacts within the department, across ministries, and with key stakeholders for the purpose of developing policy responses on relevant issues.
  • Providing policy advice to program areas within the department responsible for supporting entrepreneurs, enterprises, access to capital and investment attraction and business support activities.

Qualifications

Requirements:

A degree in a related field (e.g. Business, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, Social Sciences or a relevant field) or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

  • Strong research planning and execution skills.
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills. Ability to apply research methods and analysis tools to economic development data and information.
  • Project management and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple requests, competing priorities and to meet tight timelines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Possess demonstrated strong abilities to develop and prepare clear options analysis and briefings. Experience writing reports and/or executive briefing notes is considered an asset.
  • Ability to function well in a team-based environment that demands a high level of interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently.
  • Knowledge of government programs that support small and medium enterprises with access to capital and investment activities in Alberta and knowledge of government departments, agencies, and other resources.
  • Ability to foster positive stakeholder relations with internal and external clients; able to request and evaluate information, collaborate with staff in the department and partner ministries, and problem solve when information is not supplied.

Salary

$2,310.48- $3,030.81 biweekly ($60,303.53 - $79,104.14/ year)
