POSITION SUMMARY: Production Team Lead

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing either the welding and fabrication area or the Machine Shop area in the Production Supervisor’s absence, including: setting-up machines, training new and existing employees in the proper usage of machinery and equipment, driving forklift as required, delegate work, expedite work, and dealing with employee issues, not including disciplinary action.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: This role incorporates high levels of knowledge and greater latitudes of responsibility as they oversee and supervise their department.

  • Set-up/refine new processes including creating standard work.
  • Assist in new part set-up and in other areas as required.
  • Train new and existing operators in the safe operation and set-up of machines.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems that arise with the set-up or process.
  • Report improvements to the Process Planners, with before and after data.
  • Delegate and expedite work as needed.
  • Deal with employee issues, not including disciplinary action.
  • Observe and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiencies of the department, recommend process and/or equipment improvements and coordinate the implementation of the approved changes.
  • Report on production issues to Production Supervisor, either verbal or written.
  • Support Supervisor on establishing methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with other areas.
  • Listen, respond and follow up to the needs and requests of employees in the department.
  • Respond to calls by TM (ie. if the Lead Hand finds a part with a quality issue/concern, they have the authority to stop production asap and solve the problem).
  • Confirm quantity – routine checks.
  • Work orders for quick maintenance (ie. small maintenance issues).
  • Ensure standardized work is followed.
  • Ensure parts/materials are supplied to process.
  • Other duties as required.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
  • 5 years experience in machining, painting, and welding/fabrication.

OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Keen attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy and presentation
  • Superior math skills as well as strong follow up skills.
  • Flexible and hands-on professional who can successfully direct, motivate and train employees.
  • Ability to make critical decisions to accomplish production goals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Use of hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Use fingers to grasp, move or assemble

  • Report and act on any unsafe conditions and potential hazards that may be presented by employees or are observed while working
