Job Summary
The employee will work as a Project Manager at the CEDaR space assisting with two projects:
  • Working with Daisy Rosenblum on a language reclamation project of Kwak̓wala managing project progress and coordinating with two student workers assigned to the project. The project will involve managing and creating metadata for session recordings as well as testing and evaluating machine learning models shared with Dr. Rosenblum.
  • Working on the Locative Audio project assigning tasks and keeping track of progress while coordinating with Daisy Rosenblum and David Gaertner. The employee will coordinate the development work on the project and provide assistance with user interface design.

Organizational Status
Works under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Lab Supervisor. Interacts with student researchers and other members of the research team.

Work Performed
  • Oversee project progress and contribute to software development on active research projects focusing on implementation of user interfaces and project features
  • Perform user research activities, including user interaction and experience (UI/UX) testing, evaluation, design and implementation
  • Collaborate with digital team to create wire frames, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design objectives
  • Contribute to the execution of back-end/front-end technical development (coding) objectives
  • Support overall applications development by participating in requirements analysis, project scheduling, and various collaborative activities; contributing to team meetings, troubleshooting development and production problems, and providing end-user support, as required
  • Maintain a Kanban board and project documentation
  • Schedule, plan, and keep notes and records from team meetings with the development team and with stakeholders
  • Work with community and research team to capture bluesky ideas and solve end-user problems
  • Prioritize and assign tasks to the development team
  • Develop and document new project workflows for assigned tasks
  • Make recommendations on improvements for existing workflows
  • Attend, engage with, and keep notes and records from meetings and development workshops

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Supervised directly by the Principal Investigator and Lab Supervisor who interacts with them on an almost daily basis. Although some independent judgement is required, the close supervision reduces the likelihood of critical errors. Errors might affect the efficiency of the CEDaR team; however, given the direct line of reporting this is not likely.

Supervision Received
Minimal supervision on specific tasks and experiments. Overall direction provided by Principal Investigator. Expected to perform assignments independently, but work is reviewed by Principal Investigator. Requesting guidance only on unusual problems or matters from Principal Investigator and/or Lab Supervisor

Supervision Given
May provide guidance to undergraduate research assistants who are less experienced.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts Degree and/or at least one year of experience in community-based research. Experience in programming, HTML, and CSS. Familiar with GitHub version control and comfortable using online tools such as Miro, Figma, and Trello is preferred. Strong problem-solving skills. Strong analytical skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to follow directions, prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Attentive to detail, with the ability to work quickly and accurately. Being an organized workshop facilitator who knows how to prepare, analyze, and run a workshop with the community stakeholders and the research team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to present concepts, ideas, and insights to the project team and clients. Familiarity with problem solving for community-based design projects.
