Purpose:


The Climate and Socio-Economic Research Analyst is expected to provide the Scotiabank Economics department with timely research & technical support with a focus on climate policies and economics as well as socio-economic developments impacting the longer-term outlook. They will assist the Head of Inclusion & Resilience Economics, as well as other members of the Department, in fulfilling their empirical and policy-related research agenda through statistical analysis, econometric modelling, maintaining various relevant databases, the preparation of PowerPoint presentation decks, creating charts, tables, and figures, qualitative research, and drafting for multiple publications. The role will work closely with a team of general economic Research Analysts.


Accountabilities:


  • Data management. Managing databases related areas of work.
  • Research. Providing support for various departmental publications through the compilation of data, statistical analysis, econometric modelling, and the creation of charts, tables, and figures, with attendant copy editing.
  • Presentation support. Creating PowerPoint presentation decks, social media posts, etc.
  • Provide added value by critically exploring and suggesting novel and insightful ways to present data and ideas.
  • Internal and external research support. On-going and ad hoc support to other departments within Scotiabank, as well as to external clients.


Education:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics
  • Working knowledge of economic and financial markets, as well as issues pertaining to climate change, transition economics, and socio-economic trends impacting longer-term economic growth


Requirements & Qualifications:


  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
  • High level of proficiency in computer applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) and econometrics software (e.g. Eviews)
  • Experience working in climate and/or socio-economic issues an asset
  • Fluency in Spanish or French an asset
