The Biostatistics Department at University Health Network is a research department that collaborates with UHN clinical and basic researchers in a broad spectrum of clinical studies by providing statistical design and analysis expertise. It supports approximately 400 new studies per year including clinical trials, retrospective studies, and cancer translational studies. In addition, it is involved in teaching biostatistics to fellows and residents within the UHN as well as graduate students within the Division of Biostatistics, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. The Biostatistics Department invites applications for a Permanent full-time Senior Biostatistician position.


The Senior Biostatistician plays a key role in supporting the research efforts of clinical and translational researchers at UHN. Primary responsibilities include: providing statistical expertise to oncology researchers in the study design, planning, modeling, analysis and reporting of clinical trials and other research studies; this includes applying efficient study designs, ensuring studies are appropriately powered to reliably answer the study question, advice on data collection, develop novel statistical methodology, analysis using valid analytical methods; reporting results, including the writing of statistical methods sections of manuscripts submitted for publication.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s or PhD degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Computer Science or equivalent, 4-6 years of statistical or biostatistical research experience, effective oral and written communication. Excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving skills. S/he is expected to be a self-starter, working independently and to manage multiple projects concurrently. A working knowledge of SAS, R, and/or Python using a Windows platform is essential.


Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a Master’s degree in Biostatistics or Statistics or recognized equivalent
  • At minimum, 4-6 year practical and related experience; statistical design and analysis experience in the healthcare field preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience with cognitive function is preferred
  • Skills in the field of measurement sciences is an asset
  • Experience with survival and regression analysis
  • Experience with coding in statistical packages (SAS, Python and/or R)
  • Must have superior skills in experimental design, data management and reporting.
  • Excellent writing skills, in particular, writing of statistical methodology sections for manuscripts and grants
  • Organizational and multitasking skills
  • Computer literacy (Outlook, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Ability to work both independently-accountable for assigned projects, and as part of a team
