Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, C-IDEA, the Senior Data Specialist assesses requirements, proposes appropriate data (including structure, source, refresh, etc.), builds, and maintains data visualizations in accordance with best practices and business processes. The incumbent builds and manages a maintenance schedule to ensure that C-IDEA (Centre for Institutional Data and Enterprise Analytics) offerings remain valid and reliable and provides reports to the Director on key findings (including trends) from constructed reports, including explanation of these analyses and recommendations for future action.

This position is well-suited for a tech savvy individual who enjoys providing solutions to a variety of stakeholders using sound analysis and confident decision-making.

Responsibilities:

Dashboard and Report Building and Maintenance

· Receives requests and researches and identifies business needs for new dashboards.

· Translates business needs into effective visualizations using the appropriate data.

· Plans and implements a schedule to maintain the validity of measures and the integrity of data across products.

· With the Director, identifies opportunities to leverage institutional data to fulfill client needs.

· Implements C-IDEA’s data dictionary across its suite of dashboards and ensures definitions are maintained with product revisions.

Dataset Construction and Maintenance

· Acquires data from primary or secondary sources and builds custom datasets to generate reports and visualizations.

· Filters and cleans data in accordance with existing business practices and troubleshoots and resolves problems when they arise.

Data Analysis

· Uses institutional data to answer business questions of the Director and other team members especially via visualization(s).

· Creates ad hoc reports and visualizations using institutional data in response to stakeholder requests.

Qualifications:

Education

· Minimum completed four (4) year degree in a Data Science, Data Analysis, or a Social Science discipline with a strong quantitative emphasis.

Experience

· Minimum five (5) years’ experience building, deploying and maintaining dashboards in Tableau.

· Strong experience using a range of data transformation tools, especially including Tableau Prep.

Skills

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively interact with the College’s diverse range of stakeholders.

· Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to easily adapt to new tools and software.

· Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills in order to support and ascertain the needs of clients.

· Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

· Ability to work and make decisions with limited supervision.
