Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, C-IDEA (Centre for Institutional Data and Enterprise Analytics), the Senior Data Analytics Specialist will design, develop, and maintain data sets including querying and integrating data from disparate sources, validating data, and data verification. They will identify and enact advanced statistical tools and methods to gain insights from multiple data sources, and they will use historical data to build predictive models for use in prescriptive applications. The incumbent will also work collaboratively across the institution to operationalize business needs using new or existing data and they will communicate technical findings to users as actionable and practical insights.

Responsibilities:

Dataset construction and maintenance

· Translates business needs and requirements into designing, developing, and maintaining custom datasets.

· Documents and designs data integration requirements for projects.

· Manages multiple sources of data across platforms.

· Accesses and combines data from across multiple sources to support various business initiatives (e.g., retention analysis, funnel analysis, enrolment projections and enrolment forecasting).

Data Analysis

· Identifies appropriate statistical analysis and utilizes these methods to create insights drawing on data from multiple sources (e.g., retention, student census, student satisfaction, enrolment projections and forecasts).

· Provides actionable insights and meaningful messages from data analysis.

· Supports ad hoc requests from the Director, C-IDEA and other Seneca leaders.

Communicating data and analysis

· Collaborates with internal stakeholders to understand business objectives and develops optimal reports.

· Writes reports, briefing notes, and designs dashboards to communicate key findings to users as actionable and practical insights.

Qualifications:

Education

· Minimum completed four (4) year degree in a Data Science, Data Analysis, Social Science or a related discipline with a strong quantitative emphasis.

Experience

· Minimum five (5) years of data analytics and/or data visualization experience including:

o Querying database(s) and extracting relevant data

o Choosing statistical methods appropriate for a research question and conducting the analysis, especially including inferential modelling

Skills

· Strong knowledge and experience with computer software including:

o Tableau, Tableau Prep, Alteryx, or other data preparation software

o SPSS/STATA/R or other data analysis software

o Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Power Automate

o Programming languages/data analysis: SQL, OLS, Logistic regression, Propensity Score Matching, Event History modelling, Multilevel modelling, Principal Component Analysis, Cluster Analysis, etc.

· Strong communication skills to interact effectively with and convey complex information to diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

· Excellent attention to detail and business acumen, with the ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.

· Strong understanding of best practices in data visualization and report production.

· Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
