The Opportunity

Picton Mahoney Asset Management is presently seeking a Senior Data Architect to lead the newly formed Data team. Using your excellent communication skills, you are capable of conversing with both technical and non-technical colleagues and are comfortable contributing to a highly multidisciplinary team. Your core responsibility will be to develop, optimize, and oversee our company’s conceptual and logical data systems. Your duties may include preparing architect reports, monitoring the system, and supervising system migrations.

You will work with agency partners and other stakeholders to build and maintain the company’s databases, identifying the optimal structural and installation solutions. This includes creating database solutions, evaluating requirements, and preparing design reports.


To succeed in this role, you should know how to examine new data system requirements and implement migration models. The ideal candidate will also have proven experience in data analysis and management, with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.


Responsibilities of the Role

  • Design and implement effective database solutions and models to store and retrieve company data.
  • Examine and identify database structural necessities by evaluating client operations, applications, and programming.
  • Assess database implementation procedures to ensure they comply with internal and external regulations.
  • Work with agency partners to install and organize information systems to guarantee company functionality.
  • Prepare accurate database design and architecture reports for stakeholders and executive teams.
  • Oversee the migration of data from on prem. systems to cloud solutions.
  • Monitor the system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features.
  • Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems.
  • Educate staff members through training and individual support.
  • Research and properly evaluate sources of information to determine possible limitations in reliability or usability
  • Install and configure information systems to ensure functionality
  • Analyze structural requirements for new software and applications
  • Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts
  • Improve system performance by conducting tests, troubleshooting and integrating new elements
  • Optimize new and current database systems
  • Define security and backup procedures

The Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of database structure systems and data mining.
  • Proven work experience as a Data Architect, Data Scientist, Data Analyst or similar role
  • Solid understanding of star schema data modeling and slowly changing dimensions
  • Azure-based data platform maintenance experience
  • Expertise in deploying and managing Azure Databricks workspaces, clusters, hive metastores
  • Familiarity with ‘Databricks SQL’ persona, SQL Warehouses, schemas/tables/permissions etc.
  • Expertise in building and deploying pipelines using Azure Data Factory
  • Data Lake Management (Azure Data Lake Storage)
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure, e.g., Databricks networking requirements, Azure Infrastructure components, CICD pipelines, YAML
  • Experience gathering and analyzing system requirements
  • Knowledge of data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Expertise in MS SQL
  • Expertise in MS Excel
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, D3.js and R)
  • Experience working with private and sensitive personal information
  • Certifications: Azure Certifications preferred
