OVERVIEW:

Working in a flexible work style arrangement, Alberta Blue Cross® has an immediate opening for an enthusiastic, team-oriented, results-driven Senior Financial Analyst to join and round out our accounting team. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the ideal candidate is a natural collaborator with a great attitude, strong analytical and technical accounting know-how.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Perform daily general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and analysis to assist with month end and quarter end close.
  • Create financial policies that align with the goals of the organization.
  • Research and prepare technical accounting memos, as needed by the organization.
  • Be an active participant in the preparation of the Company's annual financial statements including note preparation, support for disclosures, and research on new standards.
  • Assist with the preparation of external audit requirements, including working papers and financial analysis to support the annual financial statements.
  • Be a key leader in the Company's preparation for adoption and implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Be an active participant in the Company's preparation, implementation, and performance of internal controls.
  • Calculate or review various regulatory filings including PILOT, VAT, Insurance Premium Tax and LICAT across multiple Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, and various other related accounting and financial schedules.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information within the organization.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Five years of progressively responsible finance or accounting experience in an organization of similar size.
  • Strong research and analysis skills.
  • Strong communication skills – effective written and oral communication is required.
  • Excellent presentation skills – the ability to understand and interpret complex data and communicate to all necessary stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and tasks quickly, work under pressure, and meet deadline requirements in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Strong knowledge and working experience with IFRS.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience or involvement in large ERP system implementations would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with corporate and/or sales tax reporting and compliance would be considered an asset.
