Purpose

The Data Governance (AML) Senior Manager is a key member of the AML Data Governance Team. The mandate of the team is to define and implement data governance and data management standards and processes for the AML data domain, aligned with policies defined by the Enterprise Data Governance. The team will collaborate with multiple stakeholders in AML and Technology to ensure that data management policies and standards are comprehensive and add value to existing processes while aligning with Bank standards and regulatory requirements.


Position Objective

The incumbent will be part of the AML Data Governance team responsible for defining, implementing and managing AML data processes. The incumbent will assist the team in monitoring compliance to AML data policies across the AML second line organization to ensure availability of high-quality data. The incumbent will assist with strategy execution of data governance framework consistent with the organization goals and objectives.

The Data Governance Senior Manager achieves this by:
  • Effectively contributes to business and data requirements gathering, creation of project documentation and supporting the project teams to design and develop solutions per these requirements.
  • Interfacing with senior management; contributing towards ongoing data management improvement initiatives. The incumbent also liaises with the analytics and reporting teams to assist in the gathering of requirements and in implementing right governance solutions.
  • Supporting directly or indirectly data quality, data lineage, business definitions, SLA, data sourcing and master data/reference data initiatives
  • Collaborating with other stakeholders including other teams within AML, Data Office and Technology to ensure that the data standards/processes are consistent where possible while aligning with enterprise standards.
The incumbent supports all internal and external regulatory reviews, and supports deliverables as a result of review findings. The incumbent plays a critical role in supporting process enhancement efforts to increase efficiency, including process automation and optimization, establishing SLAs and creating data quality standards.


Key Accountabilities

Data governance and stewardship support:

  • Contributes in various way to improve the data understanding and quality for AML
  • Supports the implementation of data governance framework for AML that meets data objectives and is aligned with the Data Office.
  • Supports interactions with Audit and Regulators
  • Executes enterprise data governance and data management strategies in line with the organization`s business strategy and objectives
  • Supports the creation, implementation and on-going support of data policies, standards and processes
  • Prepares management and technical presentations and interfaces with senior management and business users to document business requirements, data and information needs, and data exchange flows
  • Establishes and partners with cross functional data owners and users (technical and business) and recommends solutions to resolve issues in data policies/standards, data definitions, data usage, data quality and metrics.
  • Assesses data repositories for compliance with data governance policies and standards. Works with all areas of the business to ensure data quality and integrity. Performs research to formulate data governance recommendations (data ownership, data management and decision-making processes, procedures and mechanisms)
  • Supports the AML data steward by ensuring work efforts and deliverables are compliant with policies, standards, and processes that will drive consistency across AML second line.
  • Develops and delivers data governance educational awareness and mentoring materials

Data lineage/metadata management support
  • Identifies and defines key business terms, definitions, business rules, quality requirements and critical data elements. Works with the team to create and maintain business glossary
  • Assists AML data steward with metadata management, maintaining business data definitions/ business glossary and data lineage
  • Implements data lineage/metadata management policies, standards and processes


Required Skills

The incumbent must have experience and knowledge of data governance, data quality and experience in working cross functionally within an environment of multiple data repositories, multi-systems, multi-architectures, multi-vendors and multi-business lines.

  • Ability to work with data, make sense of data
  • Power BI skills are a plus
  • Experience in working with different areas of the organization to ensure implementation of data governance principles, policies, and standards are incorporated for the specific LOB and facilitate/assist in remediation initiatives for the LOB
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships with LOB, Information management and Technology groups and providing a single point of contact for interactions
  • Experience on interfacing Audit or Regulators
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written/verbal), teamwork, coordination and consensus building skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial services industry, AML and Risk management
  • Excellent skills in leadership, project management, time management, analysis & process design, mentoring and coaching
  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical clients, synthesize complex or diverse information, and use intuition and experience to articulate business needs by identifying activities which may be improved through the use of technology
  • Leadership ability to make decisions involving uncertainty using logic, thereby formulating a clear rationale based on available information, exercise sound and accurate judgment, support, and explain reasoning for decisions and recommendations
  • Demonstrated experience in taking initiative and exhibit creativity and adaptability in problem solving


Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in quantitative area, Professional financial designation or MBA preferred
