Job Software Developer in Edmonton

Are you interested in applying your developer prowess for the public good? We are looking for a curious, deliberate and purpose-driven individual to join our software development team. Cybera is a not-for-profit organization responsible for driving economic growth through the use of digital technology and best practices. We serve the province’s education, enterprise, research, and government sectors.

Opportunity:

You’ll be joining a team of software developers and data scientists that are comfortable being uncomfortable and will frequently be presented with new challenges. We work on diverse applications, sometimes more than one at a time, for external clients. The ideal candidate will have a track record of applying their craft to solve challenging software development & deployment issues.

About the Role:

You are creative and innovative, a specialized generalist of sorts with a demonstrated focus on automated testing and/or designing and implementing user interfaces (UI/UX). Working within the SCRUM framework you are excited to be a part of an agile team that develops timely solutions to complex problems. The development team leads in the technological aspect of projects, balancing the needs of the project with the desires of Cybera to explore new technology and encourage its adoption. This may require effort to learn the new technology and the development of best practices where none exist.

You will be a part of a dynamic and talented team, and like all Cyberans will lead by example. You will excel at collaboration and translating requirements into implementation detail. You will mentor others and share best practices as they relate to your experience.

Must have skills and experience:

  • Computing Science degree from a university, technical school diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A broad knowledge and working experience with different programming languages, software design patterns and the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Experience using Python, React and Postgres in the development of a single page web app.
  • Experience with development in AWS, inc. for the provisioning and management of virtual machines, versioning, and release management.
  • A focus and relevant education or other validation in the specialized areas of user experience and interface implementation and/or automated testing.
  • The ability and desire to work on both the front and back ends of application development.

The Ideal Candidate will be:

  • Able to learn and assess new technologies and techniques while encouraging the team to do the same.
  • Humble enough to say “I don’t know” or “I don’t understand” while being comfortable and courageous enough to share ideas and solutions.
  • A great communicator and listener: able to articulate and debate the pros and cons of a technical solution as it relates to the current project.
  • Accountable to the team and organization.
  • Open and willing to grow as a problem solver and software developer.

Benefits of working at Cybera:

This is your opportunity to work for a flexible, tech-forward company that is helping Canada become a more equitable place to work, learn, and play! We offer:

  • A hybrid working environment.
  • Highly supportive and inclusive work culture.
  • 35 hour work weeks.
  • Benefits:
    • Health & Vision benefits from day 1
    • Long & Short term disability benefits from day 1
    • Flexible Health Spending Account (after successful probation)
    • A generous professional development budget.
    • Regular Lunch & Learns
    • Internal Mentorship program
    • Matching RRSP program (after successful probation)
    • Healthy snacks in the office - and sometimes unhealthy snacks
    • 5 days per year to use for sick time or mental health days
  • The opportunity to invest in yourself and your career.

How to Apply:

This posting will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. Your application should include a cover letter sharing how your skill-set matches the position requirements (of course we don't expect you to have them all!) While we appreciate all applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. No phone calls or recruiter assistance at this time, please.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religious beliefs, color, gender, disability, age, ancestry, place of origin, marital status, source of income or family status of that person or of any other person.
