About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a highly motivated Regular Full-Time Manager, Strategy and Reporting to join our dynamic People, Culture and Performance division.


This exciting role will work with passionate senior leaders and the corporate strategy team to accomplish great things. The Manager, Strategy and Reporting will be immersed in the strategies and reporting of this unique national healthcare organization that saves lives across Canada every day.


This position plays an integral role in ensuring the organization’s strategy management system functions smoothly and takes advantage of new and leading practices in how strategy is deployed, and reported upon inside an organization. This role provides thought leadership and drives accountability and delivery of the Canadian Blood Services strategy, ensuring that projects are aligned to the overall ambition and strategic direction of the organization, and maintaining a consistent reporting cycle.


Key responsibilities include:


The Manager works closely with senior leadership across the organization to ensure the following activities are delivered with care, quality and excellence:


Strategy Management

  • Translates the organization's corporate strategy into operational terms – meaning the ability to disaggregate high-level strategic themes into compelling corporate goals.
  • Ensures there is a corporate measurement system – a corporate scorecard - to ensure relevant and timely data-driven feedback to track progress against corporate goals.
  • Facilitates cross-divisional discussions related to the corporate strategy and associated corporate scorecard measures and targets.
  • Develops key artefacts of the strategy management process including processes required that drive corporate performance in a single unified strategy management system.


Strategy Reporting and Review

  • Leads the creation of the quarterly strategy and operational reports using various tools, including strategy management software.
  • Advises on how best to craft analysis to ensure performance data is accompanied by a meaningful narrative to bring life to the data.
  • Creates compelling reports and well-designed strategy review meetings to ensure performance is discussed and timely decisions are made.
  • Prepares and manages presentations and briefing to the Board and stakeholders regarding our strategic plan and the state of its progress.


Project Review

  • Advises on how best to shape programs and initiatives intended to deliver on the strategic plan
  • Develops tools and approaches to ensure the organization is broadly aligned with the overarching corporate strategy
  • Works collaboratively with the ePMO to ensure project managers across the organization maintain the quality and accuracy of data and reporting for corporate and strategic projects and initiatives
  • Makes recommendations pertaining to the strategic portfolio, including prioritization, sequencing and other aspects of portfolio.


Education, training, and experience:

  • University degree in a relevant discipline, preferably in business, science, engineering, health or related discipline. A Master’s degree is an asset.
  • 5+ years of experience in strategy formulation, planning, and execution.
  • Knowledge of the Balanced Scorecard methodology, as well as a familiarity with terms like the Strategy-Focused Organization and the Office of Strategy Management is an asset
  • Certification in strategy management is desirable
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders that leverages our key values of integrity, collaboration, adaptability, respect and excellence
  • Proven high level verbal and written communication skills that allow you to deliver complex concepts clearly and effectively through documents, reports, presentations, and diagrams.
  • Previous experience in consulting, healthcare, food production, or pharmaceutical industries is an asset.
  • Must be detail-oriented with a high sense of initiative, strong problem solving, and critical thinking.
