What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Deliver Irving Oil Products to various locations within the required geographical locations.
  • Drive Tractor Trailer Trucks (B-train, cluster / tri-axle, and hose reel) safely, adhering to all DOT regulations and procedures.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure truck is performing to required standards. Maintain familiarity with different trucks/trailers in order to accurately inspect trucks, trailers, tires, pins, lights, etc.
  • Review and plan daily route using knowledge of geography, routes, zones, streets, etc.
  • Collaborate with Dispatch team to improve efficiency of routes by providing recommendations to the delivery schedule, customers that should be clustered together, or identify delivery locations that present challenges to delivery, etc.
  • Safely load and unload product from storage facilities while adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Continuously evaluate and make safety decisions on trucks, conditions, products, sites, deliveries, leaks, and any other situations in which the driver feels there may be a safety issue.
  • Report all hazards or unsafe situations that cannot be corrected on their own to manager.
  • Complete daily shift report and all required paperwork with accurate information.
  • Maintain a clean and organized vehicle – inside & outside.

Professional skills

  • Good verbal and written communication in working with load builders, dispatchers, and sometimes dealing with customers.
  • Basic mathematical skills are necessary.
  • Good judgment skills and some technical skills.
  • Able to ensure that product gets delivered on time, while considering all safety issues and problems that can arise during pre-trip checks and delivery of product.
  • Strong literacy, verbal, and comprehension of English language is required

Education and experience

  • Valid commercial truck driver's license with a clean Driver's Abstract
  • Class 1 designation with air brakes, WHMIS & Dangerous Goods Certification
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Minimum 2 years Commercial Transportation (Class 1/A) experience
