Position Summary

Loyalist College operates within a community of support that is committed to investing in the success and development of its students. It is within this context that Loyalist welcomes applications and nominations for the role of Vice President, Students, a position that will help shape the future of the College and the student body that it serves.

Reporting to the President, the Vice President, Students will offer strategic leadership across the College and serves as a subject matter expert on matters related to the student experience, student engagement, and student retention. The Vice President, Students has executive responsibility over the development and implementation of institutional policies, programs, services, and resources related to student development; is responsible for a broad portfolio that includes housing and food services; and, leads an extensive suite of support programs including student success, student health, international student support, non-academic student conduct, crisis/incident management, career and work-integrated learning services, student government, and athletics and recreation. The Vice President, Students aims to ensure that students find a community within Loyalist that is engaging, diversity-aware, and meaningfully supportive of the student population both inside and outside of the classroom.

Qualifications
Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming leader must have a deep and abiding commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all its forms and must believe, intrinsically, in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility.
While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the Loyalist environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the role:
  • several years of related and progressive management experience, ideally in a unionized environment, with experience in a post-secondary educational setting preferred;
  • demonstrated ability and experience providing effective direction and leadership within a student portfolio or within an environment that interfaces with learners;
  • demonstrated ability and experience providing strategic advice to a range of audiences, with a track record of ensuring high-quality services are implemented in support of organizational goals and objectives;
  • a proven ability to work collaboratively with students; and
  • a graduate degree, preferably in a discipline related to the portfolio.
